Ukukhanya's Rhodesian Ridgeback Vet

After the death of Kelso I joined the Genetic Disease Control Institute for Animals at Davis, CA (GDC) where I spent a lot of time researching the health of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Eventually, my efforts led me to Janet Wang of Nomvuyo kennels in South Africa. After many months of corresponding she agreed to send me my next dog that was to be my foundation bitch. “Tikkun” arrived and was considered by Janet, to be one of the best dogs she ever produced. “Tikkun” is the foundation upon which Ukukhyanya kennels is built.

Several years later Janet was judging in South Africa and came across the stunning male “Naka”. We discussed the possibility of his owner, Arno van Wyk sending ‘Naka” to America. Thankfully, Arno agreed and Naka came to live with me a little over a year in which time he became an AKC champion and bred Tikkun to produce my first litter.

Tikkun and Naka produced two litters and a total of 13 puppies. Eight of these puppies went on to obtain their championships around the world.

In the first litter the most notable puppy was Multi Ch Scout The Red Baron who was owned and loved by judge John SIgve Berg in Sweden. He sired many notable dogs in Europe that are still winning to this day.

TIKKUN: According to the Lurianic Kabbalah, there was the breaking of the vessels. Some of the light that had been in the vessels retraced its path to the source but the rest was hurled down with the vessels themselves and from their shards the dark forces took on substance. Nothing, neither the lights nor the vessels, remained in their proper place. It was a cosmic catastrophe. The sparks of light had been lost among the darkness. All the subsequent processes of creation came about to restore this primal fault. The laws by which the process of cosmic restoration and reintegration works itself out is known as Tikkun. The chief medium of Tikkun is the restoration of the universe to its original design in the mind of its Creator.

Tikkun ate bones left behind by hunters and passed away at 10 years of age due to complications arising from septic peritonitis.

>	Tikkun whelped her first litter January 16, 2000 and produced one liver nosed female and 5 males, one of which was liver nosed. There were no dermoids, ridgeless, jaw faults, kinks or gay tails. All currently are healthy, happy and showing.
>	Tikkun whelped her second litter September 18, 2001 and produced 3 females, one liver nosed; and 4 males, two liver nosed. There were no dermoids, jaw faults, kinks or gay tails. One male is ridgeless.
>	Tikkun was No. 3 Top Ten Brood Bitch - 2002. Her champion progeny to date are:

NAKA: Mr. Van Wyk, the owner of Naka, grew up on a sheep farm in a part of South Africa called the Karoo. His grandfather bought the farm from the government and named it Karoskloof. Karos = "skin rug," the only piece of sheep skin which the Hottentot people used as a loin cloth. Kloof = "gorge." The name derives from the many "karosse" which his grandfather found in the main gorge on the farm. Bayezana means "second born" in Xhosa, the dialect spoken in South Africa where Naka was born. Finally, since Naka was such a naughty and bossy pup, the last part of his name is taken from a famous South African soccer player.
